Ep. 37 “Dead End Drive In” (1986)

Our cultural exchange with the boys over at Wax On Wax Lyrical has finally come to fruition! Even though they tried to pull the old Australian waxwozzer on us and post their half of the cultural exchange without telling us, we prevailed. I think.vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h48m13s656After talking with Owen and Benji via twitter and even doing a podcrawl with them, we realized we don’t really know much about Australia and, being good Americans (except Dave), we just assumed no one in Australia knows about America. So, we proposed a cultural exchange wherein each would watch a movie that reflects something characteristic of that group’s homeland. Except Dave’s.

The movie is about some teenagers trapped in prison camp disguised as a drive in theater.vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h51m43s745

Honestly, I kind of want to go to Australia a lot. I want to live where these people live:vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h49m39s328

There are plenty of elements you expect from an Aussie movie. Apocalypses, cars, cars that survived the apocalypse,vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h51m09s830 super hot girls, vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h54m33s258

and cricket-violence.vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h57m44s048

The climax is climactic, vlcsnap-2017-04-24-12h59m47s147

the movie is fun, the soundtrack is amazing, and we loved every minute of it. Thanks to Owen and Benji for playing with us. Go listen to their podcast and tweet at them at @WaxOnLyrical

After you’re finished listening to our podcast and theirs, head over to our audio commentary tracks page to listen to us watch the movie and then, go outside and play. Just remember to bring a spare set of tires.
